After the historic signing of ECFA earlier this week, domestic debates over the nature of this agreement still rage on. While both President Ma and the Executive Yuan agree that it should be reviewed as a whole rather than clause by clause, the opposition party thinks otherwise. And a battle over this issue is expected to erupt in the Legislative Yuan soon. The ECFA was officially signed during the fifth Chiang-Chen summit, which concluded on the 30th.While Taiwan's delegation, which was led by Straits Exchange Foundation Chairman P.K. Chiang, reported to Premier Wu Den-yih on Wednesday evening, the Mainland Affairs Council submitted the two signed agreements to the Executive Yuan for review. The Executive Yuan passed the agreements on Thursday morning, and hopes that the Legislative Yuan can convene an extraordinary session to review the documents. The central government believes that the ECFA should be reviewed as a treaty, which means that it can't be edited and should be reviewed as a whole, rather than article by article. Both the United States and European Union have responded positively to the signing of the ECFA,and President Ma Ying-jeou is expected to hold Chinese and English press conferences to discuss the ECFA and possibility of signing FTAs with other nations. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
