A retired Britten-Norman 2 islander aircraft is currently on display at the Taitung airport after a recent makeover. This lightweight, 18-seat model used to be the main means of transportation between Taiwan and its adjacent islands for decades. And it bears witness to the history of Taiwans domestic aviation industry. Kids play gongs and drums to celebrate the reappearance of the old airplane, which transported passengers between Taiwan and its outlying islands thirty years ago. The BN2 18-seater had three propellers. It was a safe and convenient model, which began its service to and from Taiwan and outlying islands since 1970. At its peak, more than 30 services of such model were available in a day. The 70-year-old pilot, who flew the airplane before, had a strong bond with it. Such model retired in 1994 and is replaced by German Dornier model. Only one model is remained at the Taitung Airport for drills. But since the airplane witnessed Taiwan's economic and aviation industry takeoff. It has historic value. After the airplane is restored to its old look, it's displayed at the Taitung airport, where visitors get to witness Taiwan's aviation history. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
