Nature held its own light show for southern Kaohsiung residents, filling the sky with continuous flashes of lightning against a backdrop of heavy clouds. The sight lasted for three to four hours and held its viewers captive.

The roads of Kaohsiung are always illuminated by street lights. However, on this night, the sky was lit as well.

Despite the thick clouds hovering above, streaks of lightning were visible in the night sky. They reappeared every couple of seconds, over a span of at least three hours, creating a spectacular view.

Many residents of high-rise buildings switched off their lights in order to better admire the rare sight, and some took out cameras to document the event.

Due to the blazing temperatures and heat convection of the area, only northern Kaohsiung was subject to a thunderstorm.

Meanwhile, in southern Kaohsiung, there was no wind or rain, only a sky full of lightning.

It is a remarkable natural wonder that few will forget.
