Back in 1990, when the concept of recycling was still relatively new to Taiwan, civil groups like Tzuchi Foundation took the initiative to promote the idea. After 20 years of efforts, they've helped to increase Taiwan's recyclig rate by 35%. And many of the recycled waste items have been ingeniously turned into fashionable apparels.

Going back 20 year ago, Taiwan streets are filled with garbage on the sides for, back then, the concept of recycling was unheard of. The amount of garbage was twice the amount as today.

Many may still remember the fire of the trash pile for which many call Taiwan as the trash island.

After 20 years of hard work of civilian groups to promote the concept of recycling, Taiwan has seen an increase of at least 30% of recycling.

In one year alone, 450,000 plastic bottles were discarded last year that is 400 kilograms.

As long as people recycle, those bottles will see a new life as new clothing, raincoat, socks, purses or chairs.

It is easy to turn trash into reusable raw materials and make earth a better place for future generations.
