Starting November 1st, speed limit on the Snow Mountain Tunnel will be raised from 80 kilometers per hour to 90, which is expected to ease traffic congestion on the Taipei-Yilan Freeway, especially during weekends and holidays.

Every weekend, the Hsuehshan Tunnel going to Ilan encounters traffic congestion, leading to a long line of cars. In order to relieve traffic congestion,

the Freeway Bureau has decided from November 1st onwards, to upwardly adjust the existing speed limit of 80 km per hour in the tunnel to that of 90 kilometers per hour.

They also said they would not enforce speeding within a range of 10 km per hour, making the tunnel's actual maximum speed to reach 100 km per hour.

The Freeway Bureau believes that Taipei citizens who frequently travel to Ilan will see improved traffic efficiency.Despite raising the speed limit to improve traffic, motorists driving in the tunnel, are reminded to keep a safe distance of 50 meters between small cars and 60 meters or more for larger buses to provide adequate distance in case of an emergency.
