Citizens may have to change their ID card, once again. The Ministry of the Interior is currently debating whether to replace the current paper ID card with a chip card. This entire process is estimated to cost around 4.3 billion NT dollars.

This card is now commonly used for identification, as it was just replaced 4 years ago but in the future, there may be future changes, and one may have to re-take photos as it could cost more money and time.

This may be inconvenient for some as a change from paper based ID cards to an ID card with an IC chip much like the health insurance card could take place.

This would include increased costs of around 4.3 billion NT$.

This is more than 4 times the cost of replacing ID cards 4 years ago which cost 1 billion NT$.

They won't have as many anti-forgery protections as these paper ID cards though they will be more convenient and easier to update.

Still, some believe that it may not be necessary as some people say the cost of renewing an ID card is just 50 NT$, as many citizens are uncertain about how much such a renewal would cost in the future with these new ID cards.
