Before you place an order for a drink, check to see if the store is decently clean.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Consumers' Foundation, more than half of the jumbo iced tea tested contain high bacteria level. Now, the foundation is demanding the drink vendors to make it right.

In order to ensure the quality and safety of beverages for the public, Consumers' Foundation has conducted an inspection test on 15 chain vendors' jumbo iced tea.

According to the survey, none of the tested iced tea contain preservative agent or cumarin that will cause liver and kidney problems.

However, 8 jumbo iced tea contain high level of bacteria, which may cause abdominal pain or diarrhea.

These chain vendors are asked to make improvements as soon as possible.

If not, they will face a 30,000 NT dollar to 150,000 NT dollar fine and suspension of business license if contamination occurs again within 1 year, according to the food safety regulations.

The Consumers' Foundation says that since Bacteria growth is slowed by colder temperatures, vendors should monitor the temperature in the refrigerator at all times.

Vendors should their keep water filtration systems clean and replace the filter regularly.

To avoid further contamination, workers should wash their hands thoroughly after touching contaminated articles, such as cash.

As for consumers, it is recommended to finish the drink as soon as possible because bacteria grow over time.
