But of course Bai's singing wasn't the only highlight of the event yesterday. The performances that followed also brought down the house, including a stand-up comedy that offers a humorous take on the history of the national anthem.

This year's Double Ten National Day performance program kicked off with an energetic street dance number that paid homage to Taiwan's athletic achievements this year.

Dressed in yellow basketball uniforms and Number 40 baseball jerseys, the team of Hua Kang Arts School students referenced Chinese Taipei's win at the Jones Cup,

Lu Yen-hsun's Wimbledon heroics, and the prowess of Wang Chien-ming and Chinese Taipei's national teams on the baseball field.

Next, national crosstalk treasure Wu Chao-nan took the stage and performed a rendition of the national anthem set to the tune of children's song, "Two Tigers."

One of the favorite performances of the morning was a traditional dance performance in which the dancers dressed up like Manchurian princesses and minority children.

The number was a representation of ethnic harmony, and therefore had a great deal of significance and meaning for the island.

This year, the National Day performances exhibited a perfect blend of tradition and innovation.
