An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of eastern Taiwan at 8:31 Sunday night, with the epicenter located at 21.6 kilometers southeast of the Hualien seismic station. The quake was felt throughout the island. And so far there has been no report of casualties or damage.

Taiwan was rocked by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake which took place undersea off eastern Taiwan Sunday.

As the earthquake was happening, shoppers in the market were quickly instructed to leave.

The intensity in downtown Hualien was a 5, and the earthquake lasted more than ten seconds.

Some Mainland Chinese tourists were so scared that they went down to the lobby for safety.

The CWB says the earthquake was a result of collision of the Philippine and Eurasian plates.

A earthquake measured over 6 also hit the same spot last December.

It's a normal plate movement.

The earthquake was felt throughout Taiwan.

The intensity was a 4 in Central Taiwan and a 2 in Penghu.

The earthquake caused temporary highway and train traffic disruption before ten o'clock last night.

It was the second earthquake with a magnitude over 6 this year and the first one, measuring at 6.4, took place on March 4th in Jiaxian.
