The Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, has finally come to an end, and congratulations to our Chinese Taipei team, for bringing the glory back home. President Ma Ying-jeou greeted the athletes upon their return for snatching a total of 13 gold, 16 silver, and 38 bronze medals that pushed Taiwan up to the number seventh place out of the 45 participating countries. This marks the island's second biggest victory, slightly behind the 19 medals claimed at the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1998.

President Ma not only praised the performance of competitors for the Chinese Taipei team, but also competitor Yang Shu-chun who was disqualified in a questionable decision.

Ma said that local supporters should not vent their anger over this issue towards South Korea as Ma said that she embodied the spirit of a top competitor.

President Ma also stressed that the government will continue to finance the construction of sports centers, sports parks, and the cultivation of athletes as he looked forward to the Olympics.

The Chinese-Taipei team had an excellent performance in the Asian Games and brought back many medals and glory not only for themselves but also for all Taiwan.
