Over fifty thousand high school students are filing a protest on the Internet against the Ministry of Education's policy to cancel the study days in between the mid-term exam. Students believe that the break will give them more time to prepare for the remaining tests and they are calling for President Ma Ying-jeou to support their petition.

High school students take tests for a day and have the next day off, or take a test in the morning and the afternoon off as part of a special schedule allowing them to have special study days.

However, at the start of this school year, this program is now part of history as students are petitioning to bring it back.

Many signatures have been collected on the internet, and some say it is impossible to prepare for tests without it.

Others say half a day of testing is annoying, and now a whole day of tests is too much.

They have criticized the Ministry of Education for its new policy.

In fact, this program of giving students time off after high school and vocational tests has been around for several years, but has no legal basis.

The Ministry of Education as early as 2 years ago began drafting a plan to elminate it, and this year it was abolished.

Still, some were concerned about the response of students as they chose a compromise approach.

Now, the petition on the internet has seen 56,000 student signatures,

as they expect to send the petition this weekend to the Presidential Office as they await a public response from President Ma.
