In order to meet the increased demands for cross-strait air travel during the Chinese New Year, more than 100 additional direct flights have been announced between Taiwan and major mainland cities from January 20th to February 17th, and many of them will be red-eye flights with discounts up to 40%.

It is almost impossible to get a seat on the cross strait flights during the Chinese new year season, especially the popular destinations.

In order to alleviate the demand for seats, most Taiwanese businessmen in China are expecting more added cross strait flights.

For Next years Chinese new year period, there will be an additional 32 flights between Taiwan and Shanghai and an additional 16 flights between Taiwan and Shenzen.

Other cities, including Beijing, Guanzou, Nanjing and Hanchou are to add no more than 10 flights each.

There are no cap set for other destinations, in addition, Wuxi, Hsuchou, Chuanchou and Sanya are the 4 new direct routes from Taiwan.

As for the red-eye flights, there might be more of those in 2011 compared to this year, especially to those popular cities.

Those additional flights may leave early in the morning or late at night while the CAA is asking all airlines to offer 40% discount off the face-value of those tickets while over half of those seats are to be made available on the internet for purchase.

However, the passengers are not appreciative of the discounted prices of those additional flights just added.

Those flights are scheduled between January 20th and February 17th as the CAA is waiting for all airlines to apply for the schedule and would try to release the flight times as early as next month.
