Taitung County's Shan Yuan area was the first place in Taiwan for the general public to come into close contact with marine fish. However, the increasing number of tourists in the area has brough harm to the local ecology. Therefore, a group of volunteers have constructed a path out of stones at this reef to better protect the local species. Taitung County's Shan Yuan conservation area is rich in fish and crab and also a place where tourists can feed the fish making it a very popular East Coast tourist attraction. At low tide, visitors entering the intertidal zone may unwittingly interfere with the local ecology and these little creatures. Taking into account ecological conservation and tourism development, the conservation area's management committee set aside 300,000 NT$ for 10 volunteers to use stones to build a 180 meter walkway. It plans to be completed this weekend, and visitors in the future will be able to walk out to the ocean. This trail will help protect the intertidal zone and shuttle people back and forth as the fish will become even closer, and the damage from these visits will be lessened. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
