Future test takers for the college entrance exam will not have to endure stifling hot weather because the Ministry of Education has decided to provide students a more comfortable environment starting this July, by making air-conditioning available in all test sites.

College entrance exams are held in July each year, and with summer, both students and parents see sweat pour from their foreheads.

Examination rooms have not been able to use air conditioning to maintain fairness with only electric fans being used to cool candidates.

This has led to many complaints over successive years, as students were hoping to turn up the air conditioning for their exams.

After careful assessment, the Ministry of Education has decided that starting in July this year, college entrance tests and those for second year junior high students will be able to use air conditioning.

However, other tests offered in May, such as the first junior high competency test does not see weather that is excessively hot, so no air conditioning will be used.

To provide air conditioning units and electricity to all these facilities would cost 30 million NT dollars, so a compromise was made, and the cost was not passed on to test takers.

With summer arriving, air conditioning will make test conditions more comfortable.

The Ministry of Education emphasizes that if during the examination, air-conditioning units fail or power goes out windows can be opened and fans used to cope with the condition.

No extra points will be given to test takers encountering these problems.

And for those that don't want air conditioning, they can register for special exam rooms without these amenities.
