In the wake of the Morakot flood, the issue of land safety has become a major concern for the nation. The Council for Economic Planning and Development has just recently released a list of 207 environmentally sensitive areas, and among them, 87 sites are categorized as "unsafe". Here on CTS, let's find out where most of these potentially hazardous places are located.

Bixi Bridge, which is located on Taipei City's Neishuang River, is one of the island's most renowned scenic spots. However, it is also one of the most dangerous.

The Council of Economic Planning and Development recently completed a national environmental survey and released a list of 207 environmentally sensitive areas.

Of the 207, 26 were deemed "safe," 87 were "unsafe," and 94 were "conditionally safe."

Of the unsafe areas, 24 were in Hualien, 13 were in Taitung, 14 were in Taichung, and a small minority was in developed metropolitan areas like Taipei City and Kaohsiung City.

Most of the "unsafe" areas are overdeveloped and prone to mudslides and landslides.

National Taiwan University Professor Chen Hong-yu, who oversaw the survey, is calling on the public to pay closer attention to the environment.

The CEPD, meanwhile, says that its report consists of only preliminary findings and that a more in-depth survey will be conducted in the future.

Relevant information has been sent to municipal governments, and the CEPD hopes that changes and improvements can be made to sensitive areas before the arrival of this year's typhoon season.
