With this year being the 64th anniversary of the 228 incident, the 228 Museum reopened earlier this week, which has new digital data added to the permanent exhibition to help the public learn about the historical occurrence. In response to the criticism from the families of the victims, President Ma Ying-jeou said during the ceremony, that the government will deal with their past mistakes rather than avoid them.

This year marks the 64th anniversary of the 228 incident. The permanent exhibit of the 228 memorial hall is recently renewed.

When family members of the victims paid a visit to the exhibit, they took the opportunity to express their anger towards President Ma and blamed that former president Chiang Kai-shek was the culprit of the 228 incident.

They were so agitated and said that they cannot accept the Ma administrations China policy.

When giving a speech, President Ma responded that Taiwan is a democratic country and can tolerate different opinions.

While his administration would face the past mistakes, he stressed that former President Chiang Kai-shek considered the idea of promoting Taiwan's democracy back in 1950.

Facing criticism that the renewed exhibition was far from the historic truth, director of the 228 incident memorial hall Hsieh Ying-tsung explained that the theme of the exhibit is to present the history of Taiwan's autonomy.

To familiarize the public with the history of the incident, the exhibit features audio and visual contents and documentary footages are played in 12 exhibition areas.

Through touching the panel, visitors can see the related documentary films of local developments in Taiwan.
