Following the deadly pub fire that shook the entire nation, the Taichung City Deputy Mayor Hsiao Chia-chi, Urban Development Bureau Director Huang Chung-tien, and Economic Development Bureau Director Chu Huei-lan have announced their resignations. The local government also held a meeting to discuss the implementation of stricter policies in the future, with a plan of establishing an administration that is specifically targeted in overlooking public safety regulations and inspections. Taichung City Mayor Jason Hu was often unable to control his emotions during a city government public safety meeting on Thursday, and questioned how the fire broke out when the nightclub had previously passed 21 safety inspections. Meanwhile, Urban Development Bureau Director Huang Chung-tien couldn't keep from shedding tears while being pursued by the media. Taichung City Deputy Mayor Hsiao Chia-chi, and Economic Development Bureau Director Chu Huei-lan had tendered their resignations on the day of the fire to take responsibility for the tragedy, but Hu has not yet approved the resignations. The investigation committee's first task at hand will be inspecting the foam that caused the spread of the fire. The foam is commonly found in nightclubs, pubs, and live music venues, but there are currently no relevant regulations or departments governing the usage of the foam. The committee is also expected to investigate how the nightclub had been operating in a residential district for so many years. The Taichung City Government says that bars and nightclubs are found in residential districts all over Taiwan, and produced evidence of a query it had sent the Ministry of the Interior two years ago on this very issue. It remains to be seen where the blame lies for the tragedy, but Taichung City councilors are calling on Hu to take responsibility. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
