With other nations now evacuating their citizens from Japan, the question has been raised concerning whether Taiwan will follow suit. And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday that even though an official order has not been issued yet, the diplomatic authorities have actually started to evacuate Taiwanese nationals last week in a broad sense.

After an overnight meeting from Thursday to Friday, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has arranged for local airlines to add more flights to Tokyo to evacuate R.O.C. nationals back to Taiwan.

after 8 days since the earthquake, many other nations are evacuating their citizens out of Japan. According to the MOFA, all other nations are offering the options for their citizens to evacuate, but not mendatory, just like what the R.O.C. government has been doing since the first day of the earthquake.

MOFA pointed out that, all flights from Tokyo back to Taiwan are only 80% full, those wish to return should not have a problem getting a seat.

However, according to some passengers who just returned to Taiwan from Tokyo, getting to the Narita or Haneda internatinoal airport is the challenge as some even had to take shuttle buses offered by other countries to get to the airport.

The MOFA made a promise of asking the Taipei economic and cutural office in Japan to assist R.O.c. nationals while those buying a ticket at the airport counter would pay more, MOFA is asking airlines to offer cheaper fares online for those trying to get home while asking those who do not have the need to stay in Japan to return to Taiwan as soon as possible
