According to a new survey by Child Welfare League Foundation, 40 percent of the children in Taiwan say, that they do not feel the support and the love that they need at home. With majority of them citing parents' long working hours as the top factor of feeling distant, the foundation is now proposing a policy of "no overtime on Wednesdays", to provide more time for the family to bond.

Modern parents are so focused on their professional careers that they often end up neglecting their children.

Many children say that they spend virtually no time with their parents, and a recent Child Welfare League Foundation survey reveals that one-third of parents in Taiwan don't return home until after 8 p.m. every day.

40% of the children surveyed say they feel no warmth at home, and some of the respondents even likened their homes to cold, emotionless prisons.

50% of the children said that they talk to their parents fewer than 30 minutes per day, and that the conversations focus only on school. The Foundation is now promoting a "333" exercise that calls on parents to hug their children 30 seconds per day, listen to their children for 30 minutes per day, and no overtime on Wednesdays.

The CWLF also hopes that companies can take part in the exercise and allow employees to leave work earlier.
