Labor groups have gathered outside the luxurious complex, The Palace, in Taipei on Wednesday, to highlight the problem that's affecting the lives of young people, who are struggling to buy their first houses with their low paying jobs. To make their voices heard, the people are also planning to launch a demonstration on May 1st, to ask the government to work harder in minimizing the wealth gap. With slugs in hand, youths from labor groups gathered outside The Palace, where units cost upwards of 2 million NT per ping. While the juxtaposition of slugs against the backdrop of The Palace was a representation of Taiwan's widening wealth gap, the youths made it clear that they were not protesting the wealthy, but rather asking the government how hard they have to work in order to save enough for a home of their own. Labor groups say that the luxury tax will not bring about residential equality, and that high property prices and low income are the causes of youth poverty.
