In the latest survey by a human resource company, only 30% of private enterprises in Taiwan are planning to give their employees a pay raise this year, which makes the potential 3% salary increase for public servants all the more enviable in the eyes of the majority of private sector professionals.

After 6 years, those civil servants, teachers and military personnel are going to receive a pay raise of 3% this year as an effort from the government to influence the private sectors to follow suit, too.

However, according to a recent survey, only 31% of businesses are planning on giving pay raise, at an increase of around 4.06% on the average.

73% of the businesses said that, the adjustment only applies to those performed well at the jobs and the pay increase is not across the board.

Due to the recent global oil and raw material price increases, the cost went up for many as those owners are saying that,

during the time of economic recovery before getting back to the pre global financial crisis level, it is difficult for the private sector to all increase pays.

Scholars made suggestion to the government that it should aggressively assist in development in all sectors to help increase productivity, increase profit,

and expand income, otherwise the hope of the government to have the private sector to increase pays would only benefit a small percentage of the working force.
