After the deadly derailment last month, it has been decided that management of the Alishan forest train services will be taken over by the Taiwan Railway Administration for safety improvement.

But the transfer will not be completed until 2014, which some lawmakers worry may be too long for the good of local tourism.

It's confirmed that the Alisan forest train services will be operated by Taiwan Railway Administration in the future but the forest bureau will bear the financial consequences.

While it takes time to investigate the accident and the trial operation before the service resumption, Taiwan Railway Administration says it will only be able to take over the operation in 2014 at the soonest.

But several major public safety accidents happened on Mainland Chinese tourists.

Lawmakers criticized that these deadly accidents may affect Mainland Chinese visitors' willingness to visit Taiwan.

The tourism bureau says it will establish an assessment system on tourism attractions with items including tourist safety and maintenance.

It will also set up an emergency task force. But without a punishment mechanism, it seems that travel safety is lying in the hand of operators in the tourism industry
