150 stars are participating in a social media campaign to combat Africa's worst famine in decades, and to help people who are in desperate need.

The campaign, called "I'm Gonna Be Your Friend," shows a video of Bob Marley and The Wailers' 1973 song, 'High Tide or Low Tide," along with footage of numerous families starving in the region, created by award-winning film director Kevin Macdonald.

Celebrities, and stars including Lady Gaga, U2, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Paul McCartney, David Beckham, Ryan Seacrest, Bruno Mars, Madonna, Shakira and among others, have signed up to help encourage donations to the campaign using their Facebook pages and Twitter feeds.

The proceeds will go to the program, which distributes food, funds, water and medicine for people affected by the famine.

According to Billboard, the campaign's goal is to reach an audience of 700 million people globally.

The food crisis is still growing in Eastern and Northeastern part of Africa, putting around 3.6 million people at risk of starvation in Somalia, while affecting 12 million people across the Horn of Africa, including in Ethiopia and Kenya.
