Taiwanese-born American Designer Jason Wu is showcasing his latest line of couture, for Spring 2012 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, which is going down in New York at Lincoln Center through September 15th.

The [2] 29-year-old designer, Jason Wu, used bright colors, such as shocking pink, and neon yellow, along with playful tones including graphic prints and floating petal prints in his bias-cut dresses, which are mainly made from elegant fabric, such as silk and chiffon.

Still, neutral elements of black, ivory and gray color were incorporated into his designs to keep the line grounded.Wu told the reporters that this collection was inspired by two very different elements.

"One was Pop Art and the other was couture shapes. I really wanted to combine two very different elements into a cohesive collection -- being that Pop Art and couture both came to prominence in the '50's, I wanted to take two very different movements and put them together."

The bright colors and striking prints give a wow factor, contrasting with the 1950's shirtwaist dresses, thin belts, and peplum skirts, while accentuating the hourglass figures of women. Sequins and Swarovski crystals were also used to give a feminine touch to the modest Peter Pan collars on Wu's new line.

With many of his couture clients being women with high-octane careers, Wu provided his own interpretation of the new look for modern women.

I just feel like fashion right now has gone to a very ladylike phase. But she's here with a little edge, a little toughness, and that was my reaction to the mood of fashion right now."
