The robot boxer in "Real Steel" held strong enough to stay in the first spot for the second weekend. Still, the family drama fell a respectable 40% from last weekend to 16.3 million US dollars, bringing its total ticket sale to 51.7 million US dollars.

No. 2 went to the horror remake "Footloose", which opened with 15.6 million US dollars. With an impressive "A" rating from CinemaScore, it seems like the new version is quite popular among the young generation. The dance flick is likely to bring in more moviegoers in the weeks to come.

While the "Footloose" remake held its own, another 80s remake, "The Thing", on the contrary scored a disappointing result at 8.5 million US dollars. Being unable to surpass other horror remakes, such as "Friday the 13th," and "The Stepfather," "The Thing" is likely to have a tough time surviving its strong competitor "Paranormal Activity 3" next weekend, before it starts its trip to DVD.

The movies occupying fourth through eighth place were all holdovers from past weeks, including "The Ides of March", "Dolphin Tale", "Moneyball", "50/50" and "Courageous."

Meanwhile, opening miserably in the ninth place with 3.25 million US dollars was "The Big Year."Starred by Steve Martin, Owen Wilson, and Jack Black, the film revolves around a group of birders setting on a quest to compete with each other by finding the most species of birds, while their competition is an allegory for the challenges they face in their lives. After failing to please the audience, the film is looking to quickly fade from theaters over the next few weeks.
