British actress Dame Judi Dench has been presented with the Praemium Imperiale award for Theatre and Film from Prince Hitachi in Tokyo on Wednesday. The academy award winning actress, Judi Dench, whose acting career ranges from Shakespeare plays to films including James Bond and Pirates of the Caribbean, has been named as one of five new Praemium Imperiale Laureates this year. She said she was "overwhelmed" to accept one of the art world's most valuable awards. "It is I think very important that we came here this particular year. I am overwhelmed by being asked back to Japan and I feel very very humbled when people speak of ones work, especially as I think of the acting profession it's very much a personal feeling about whether one likes somebody or not, so I feel very very honored to have this." The Praemium Imperiale, or also known as the "World Culture Prize in Memory of His Imperial Highness Prince Takamatsu," is an arts prize awarded since 1989 by the imperial family of Japan on behalf of the Japan Art Association to those who significantly contributed to the fields of painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and theatre/film, which are the areas of achievement not covered by the Nobel Prize. Award recipients will be granted 15 million yen, around 115,000 pounds. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
