Country pop artist Taylor Swift became the biggest winner of the night, after beating out contenders including Adele, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry to claim the ceremony's highest accolade as the artist of the year, at the 39th annual American Music Awards, that went down in Los Angeles on Sunday. The 21-year-old singer, who now has a total of 10 AMA trophies, also took home awards for the favorite country female artist and favorite country album for "Speak Now." Adele, who was absent from the show as she is recovering from her throat surgery, also grabbed three honors, for the favorite pop/rock female artist, adult contemporary artist and pop/rock album for "21." Maroon 5, who was named as the favorite pop-rock band/duo/group, surprised the audience by inviting Christina Aguilera on stage, to belt out "Moves Like Jagger." Beyonce was crowned as the favorite soul/R&B female artist, Bruno Mars picked up the favorite pop/rock male artist trophy, while Foo Fighters scooped the favorite alternative rock artist award. Rihanna who was also unable to make fans scream in person, gave her thanks via a videotaped speech, after winning the favorite soul/R&B album for "Loud." Nicki Minaj, who kicked off the show, with speakers on her posterior, nabbed favorite rap/hip-hop artist, and favorite rap/hip-hop album for "Pink Friday." The new artist of the year went to Hot Chelle Rae, while Lady Antebellum was named as the favorite country band/duo/group. Jennifer Lopez, who is rumored to be dating her 24-year-old dancer, stole the music event with her barely there dress. Lopez, who received the favorite Latin music artist award, gave back to the supporters by performing several hits, including ""On the Floor" with Pitbull and Hard" with rapper will.i.am. Sporting a pink hairdo, Katy Perry won the special achievement award, for being the first female to grab five, number one singles from a single album. Electro pop duo LMFAO helped wrapped up the show, by unleashing the inner wild side of David Hasselholf and Justin Bieber.
