British researchers have made some new discovery, that are completely new to our eyes and new to science. An array of deep-sea exotic creatures have been found near the volcanic vents in the super-heated waters of the Indian Ocean.

Almost 3000 meters down, marine biologists have found what they think could be creatures never seen before. British scientists have been on a voyage into the Indian ocean to these underwater hot springs, often called black smokers.

On the South West Indian Ridge, a camera fitted to an underwater robot delved down from the James Cook research vessel. Anemones, crabs and shrimp were found close to the springs, which are present near underwater volcanoes that make the earth's new crust.

But a surprise for the team was coming across a variety of holothurian, or sea cucumber, which has only been seen in the Eastern Pacific vents.

The oceanographers are back on dry land at Southampton University and hope now to study the species further to verify if they are brand new discoveries.
