After receiving the best international actor award at the Golden Camera Awards held in Berlin, actor Denzel Washington showed up in New York with co-star Ryan Reynolds for the premiere of their new movie "Safe House."

In the action thriller, Washington plays a former CIA agent, Tobin Frost, who has been placed in a safe house manned by Matt Weston, played by Ryan Reynolds. After the secret location is raided by rebels, Tobin and Matt battle their way across South Africa to find a secure location, as they tried to uncover who wants them dead.

The movie is mainly filmed Cape Town, South Africa, over the course of five months. The storyline of the film had the two stars traveled to various locations across the country. In an effort to make the film as realistic as possible, Washington actually subjected himself to waterboarding, a form a torture formerly used by the CIA in order to extract information from prisoners. The practice involved water being poured over someone's face which resulted in the feeling of drowning.

"It's very disorienting and I was relaxed. You imagine in those real situations where it's already tense and you might have already been sleep deprived or blindfolded or whatever. But I knew it was a controlled environment so it wasn't as intense." said Denzel Washington.

"Safe House" opens in U.S. and Taiwan theaters today.
