Despite the challenge from two competitive new-releases over Easter Weekend, box office phenomenon The Hunger Games had little difficulty claiming the top spot for the third-straight weekend.

"The Hunger Games" dropped 43 percent to 33.1 million US dollars, pushing the total ticket sale to 302 million US dollars.

The Katniss hit now ranks number 37 on the list of all-time domestic blockbusters, just ahead of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," and has grossed more than every one of the Twilight movies.

"American Reunion," the eighth film in the American Pie franchise and fourth released theatrically, opened at No.2 with decent 21.5 million US dollars.

Produced for 50 million, "American Reunion" attracted older audiences with studio research showing that 61 percent of the audience was 25 years old and older.

However, with the "Hangover" films pushing the boundaries to new heights, the American Pie humor seems not so bold anymore.

Making the 100th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic, "Titanic 3D" sailed back into theaters, earning only 17.2 million during its first weekend.

In addition, the movie's three-day weekend was the lowest among all four of the 3D re-releases from the past eight months, including "The Lion King" at 30.1 million and "Beauty and the Beast" at 17.75 million.Still, "Titanic 3D" did earn a solid A grade from CinemaScore, so good word-of-mouth is certainly spreading.
