After several nations, including China, Germany and France, have ordered evacuations of their citizens from Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday that it has not reached a final decision on the action yet. But preparations are already underway to ensure that the evacuation plan will be smoothly implemented once initiated.
The Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission said that there were 600 compatriots in Miyagi Prefecture, with about 200 not having any contact.
There are a total of 30,000 overseas compatriots in Japan, and if these compatriots wanted to return home, the OCAC and Ministry of Transportation and Communications would try to help out.
The MOTC said that at present,
there are about 10,000 seats a day between Kanto and Kansai. Coordination with EVA Air and China Airlines has taken place and more flights can be added, and six hours are needed to set up such operations.
As for the possibility of wind-borne radiation hitting Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau says its not possible.
The CWB said it updates weather maps every 6 hours and continues to monitor the latest information as it urges people in Taiwan not to panic over the possibility of radiation pollution.
