DPP CANDIDATES' VISIONS ON BOOSTING ECONOMY

綜合報導 / 台北市

The presidential hopefuls, Hsu Hsin-liang, Tsai Ing-wen and Su Tseng-chang have expressed their visions to boost the nation's economy on the first televised DPP-organized forum. Hsu stressed the importance of the caring for minorities, and for a more open cross-strait policy. On the other hand, Tsai focused on creating jobs for the people, with Su emphasizing the need of developing other parts of the island in providing equal opportunities for the younger generation.

In the first of four DPP-organized televised forums, three candidates outlined their political platforms hoping to boost their poll numbers.

Former DPP chairman Hsu Hsin-liang gave an emotional performance, sharing his journey as politician and proposing that Taiwan should "open up wide to Chinese money, students and tourists".

Unlike Hsu's daring approach, Tsai Ing-wen started with her political career, stressing her unparalleled experiences in cross-strait relations and international affairs.

Her China policy is to set cross-strait issues on a wider global framework, rather than limiting them to a historical context only relevant to Taipei and Beijing.

Meanwhile, she mentioned the issues such as industrial development and job opportunities, emphasizing her effort to create a bright future for those under 40.

Su Jen-chang proposed his views that it's up to Taiwanese to decide whether or not and how the country would change the status quo. Besides that, the former premier stressed that imbalanced development of the nations' land and unequal distribution of resources means that a child's place of birth could determine his or her future success.

It was the first time for the three candidates to share their political platforms.

Hsu emotionally expressed his lifelong political ideals.

Tsai stated her policies in a rational manner while Su depicted a vision of a prosperous and fair. It's obvious the three candidates have divergent styles toward the elections.
