YUNLIN SCHOOL TAKES PART IN SAVING PLANET

The staffs at the Chaur Tsuo Elementary School in Yunlin County are committed in protecting the environment. The campus has recently added 48 solar panels, which can generate power and dramatically cut down the energy consumption by 65 percent. The school is also using this new method to educate the students about the significance of being green.

The lights, projectors, and other electrical equipment in this classroom once required electricity to power.

Now, they are being powered by 48 solar panels that were constructed with subsidies from the Bureau of Energy.

As solar power is sometimes limited by weather conditions and other factors, equipment and facilities that require relatively more energy, including air conditioning systems, are still powered by electricity.

School officials at Chaur Tsuo Elementary School say that installing the solar panels was a cost-saving, eco-friendly move that also helps to educate students on green energy.

With the nuclear crisis in Japan continuing to make headlines, green energy is at the forefront of discussions around the world.

According to Principal Liao Chien-sheng, Taiwan's climate makes the island an ideal place to develop solar energy, and the school hopes to plant the seeds of environmental protection in students from an early age.
