A pangolin caused a disturbance at the Toufen police station in Miaoli on Tuesday. The pangolin, one of the protected species in Taiwan, was spotted wandering the streets. Pedestrians worrying that it could be hit by cars called the police to catch it. The pangolin wanders under the desk and into the computer room with police officers following in its wake. The animal weighs nearly 8 kilograms, but it is nimble and energetic. Concerned about the heat, the officers decided not to close the box that they were keeping it in, and the pangolin soon began wreaking havoc in the Toufen station. Pangolins are a protected species and covered in scales. When they feel threatened, their bodies tense up and their scales open for protection. As a result, the officers were wary of cutting their hands on the pangolin's scales. The pangolin was first discovered wandering down the Toufen section of Provincial Highway No. 3 on Sunday evening. A pedestrian was concerned that it would be hit by a car, and brought it to the police station. According to the police, the pangolin seems to be domesticated and likely escaped its home due to the heat. The police have asked the local Agriculture Department to pick up the pangolin for examination. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
