A group of aboriginal teenagers of the Tsou trible are on a 15-day bicycle trip to visit several universities around Taiwan, trying to get a first taste of what college life is like. In the metal work classroom of Department of Applied Arts of Fu Jen Catholic University, so many students are working together at the same time. These students from Jiayi, ranging from 12 to 18 years of age, have a special summer vacation this year, since they have a bicycle tour around the island following the guidance of volunteer college students. The trip began in Jiayi on July 5th, via Taichung and stops in Taipei for four days, visiting different college programs. 7th grader, Wu Chen-hua says it's been a tough and long ride and he wanted to give up at some point. A group of college and graduate students formed the volunteer team after the 88 flooding to provide free after-class tutorial to kids of the Tsou tribe. Not only so, they wanted to show these kids the outside world, by raising the fund themselves. Each kid has a camera to document the trip. But worried about the students' safety, the school teacher Tsai Mei-ying drives from Jiayi followed the bicycle team and gives her best support. These children take out notes to write down what they learn in the college experience camp, about the meaning of corporation and ways to make cookies. This summer vacation is different for the tribal kids also for the college students who designed the program. Instead of working part-time for money, doing internship or preparing for graduate school entrance exams, they choose to give this summer to the children. After completing the trip to visit colleges in Taipei, these kids will take public transportation to Hualien, where they will ride to Taitung and come back to Jiayi. It'll be an unforgettable summer experience for all the participants. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
