The Next Media, owner of Apple Daily and the Next Magazine, launched its news channel on the Internet this week, after being repeatedly denied a television broadcast license by the authorities. Observers say that although nothing offensive has been found in its initial web broadcasts, it's still too early to tell whether this controversial media group is truly committed this time to playing by the rules.

Next Media has been at the center of controversy for some time over its use of graphic animated news stories, and the National Communications Commission has so far rejected the company's television news channel application three times.

The NCC is set to conduct a fourth review of the application in the near future, and Next has in the meantime begun broadcasting news online.

According to experts, Next Media has made an effort to clean up the content of its news stories and report news in a more conservative manner, but it remains to be seen whether this is because the group's license application has not yet been approved.
