The boot camp at Chenggongling is best known for training male recruits all around Taiwan, but nowadays it's also the place where many young women get their first taste of military life, as the number of professional female soldiers keeps growing. And recently Chenggongling opened its camp to the public, offering them a glimpse into the making of Taiwan's version of GI Janes. Many of the participants in the demanding physical training program are females, who are required to go through the same training regimen as males do, such as rope climbing and war drills, which prepare participants for extreme physical and mental challenges. And these are high school students in the summer boot camp. On the other end, career soldiers are also practicing under blazing sun. They are female trainees in the Non-Commissioned Officers program. They are to receive eight weeks of training. Although the temperature exceeds 30 degree Celsius, they are in full gear when doing the required practices, such as rope climbing or self-defense skills. According to these female soldiers, the toughest part of the training is mainly physical requirement. The 120 female soldiers are the minority at the training camp. While the training process is hard and demanding, they all agree they've grown a lot and the jouney is an unforgettable experience. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
