The Taipei City government is making adjustment to its Gifted Education program, now creating additional sessions for the especially talented preschoolers. By evaluating kindergarten children's abilities in various fields, the kids will be given extra training outside of regular classes. However, this plan is already igniting debates among the parents. A change is expected in the kindergarten education in Taipei city. Taipei city's Bureau of Education is going to implement a pilot talented education program to children at the age of 4-5. The program will investigate children's talents through both tests and long-term observation to find out what these children's talents are, in terms of language, mathematics and logic, visual-spatial ability, and music talents. A half-day talented course or activity per week will be arranged according to their evaluation results. The pilot talented education program will be implemented in 4 public kindergartens in Taipei and the bureau hopes to expand the program to all kindergartens in the city in the future. While some parents agree with the program, however, other parents argue that it's too early for little kids to receive talented education and worry that it may affect children's physical and mental development. In response to parents' doubts, the bureau says that the program aims at stimulating children's potential and then provides suitable resources to them. Those who are evaluated as gifted ones won't be permitted to skip grades in elementary schools so parents should not be worried. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
