The romantics are choosing today, September 9th to tie the knot. And why is that?

In Mandarin, the number "9" is pronounced like the word "enduring", therefore, the two nines represent the meaning of "everlasting".

Since it is the 99th year of the Republic of China, the combination of four nines promises the lovers a happily ever after.

Many couples will be tying the knot on Thursday, which is September 9th in the 99th year of the Republic of China. As the Chinese almanac also says that this day is a good date for weddings, household registration office workers began decorating offices as early as Monday. Couples that register their marriages at Xinzhuang's Household Registration Office on Thursday will be able to take wedding portraits and take home gifts of handmade heart-shaped soaps and post-its.

A designer also unveiled a special eco-friendly wedding gown made from garbage bags in Xinzhuang. Meanwhile, the Taipei City Government has prepared mug and soup bowl sets for newlyweds. Given that the number nine is a homophone for "long-lasting" in Chinese, 9/9/99 is an extremely auspicious day for a wedding.
