President Ma Ying-jeou reaffirmed on Thursday the vital role that KMT armies played in winning the Sino-Japanese War, refuting a recent claim by mainland media that credited the Communist Party as the leader of China's resistance efforts. Ma called the claim a "distortion of history" that cannot be tolerated. With the military tunes playing in the background, President Ma Ying Jeou presented awards to model military personnel at this year's 65th victory anniversary of the battle against the Japanese. Ma stresses the importance of the National army's help for Taiwan to be freed from Japanese colonial period. As to the previous article in the Mainland Chinese Peoples Daily which said that the winning battle over the Japanese proves to be the Chinese Communist party is the core for winning battle and didnt mention a word of the National troupes contribution to the battle, President Ma retorted the article and said that the history should not be changed.
