In reaction to the recent international disputes over Diaoyutai Islands, Premier Wu Den-yih stated on Tuesday that the government will take necessary actions to uphold Taiwan's territorial claims to the area, but not before careful consideration and planning.

China and Japan are currently engaged in a diplomatic battle over the Diaoyutai Islands, and U.S.-China-Japan relations are extremely tense.

During an interpellation on Tuesday, Premier Wu Den-yih reiterated Taiwan's sovereignty over the islands but said that the government wants to handle the matter in a way that does not result in international tension.

In response, one legislator expressed concerns that Taiwan would be marginalized if it does not get involved in the conflict, and said that the government should adopt an "iron hand in a velvet glove" approach to the situation and declare Taiwan's sovereignty by sending a team to land on the island.

In response, Wu said that he would consider the idea as long as it does not result in an international incident.
