The Control Yuan members are investigating into the manufacturing procedure of the pig's blood cake after media reports allegedly indicated that the delicacy is not sanitary. To lift the importing ban of the product into the United States, evaluations will also be submitted to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to guarantee that the Taiwanese traditional snack is safe to consume.

This is how you make pig blood cake: first, mix the blood with glutinous rice, set the mixture in the mold, then steam it till it sets.

This is the standard procedure to manufacture pig blood cake, and it seems like the sanitary procedure is also in line as all the workers wear hats, facemasks, and aprons.

Also, the products are all frozen below zero to ensure its freshness.

However, despite its regulations, some flies were still able to pass the security lines and make their way into the factory while the officials came to survey the area.

Actually, the reason for why the survey is taking place at the factory is because the US Department of Agriculture denies the import of this product based on the ground of unsanitary production.

Therefore, staff from the Control Yuan Chen Ren-hong and Yang Mei-ling, along with the Department of Health are going to different factories to make sure that everything is in line with regulations.

So far, most of the slaughtering houses and manufacturers are all legal, the next step is to check smaller private establishments.

If there are any irregularities or violations on sanitary regulations, warnings will be issued; but if everything turns out to be in line, then the officials will explain this to the US counterpart.

Other than to make sure the quality of Taiwanese products are safe and of high standard, this effort is also to promote this traditional Taiwanese snack to the world.
