In Miaoli County, a special celebration was held yesterday which looks a lot like a wedding procession. But in fact, the star of the day was neither a bride nor a groom, but a 100-year-old tree on its way to a new home.

Drum beats and melody out of suona instruments could be heard throughout the area continuously. Making people wonder whether a temple nearby is holding some kind of celebration or whether the daughter of a neighbor is about to be given away as bride.

In fact, all the commotion in this Hakka village is over a 100-year-old Banyan tree has been strapped onto a large truck.

The event is so important for the local residents that it must be carried out according to formal Hakka traditions.

The local residents following the delivery of the tree are reluctant to say goodbye, as the tree had been with them for so many years and evokes so many nostalgic memories.

A grandpa's voice became little as he recalled his childhood with the tree.

However, the local residents are at wit's end as the tree impeded plans to broaden a nearby road.

Unwilling to it cut down, the local residents have no choice but to replant the old tree in a neighboring village.

Just as though they were about to give a daughter away for marriage, the local residents cooked up a pot of rice ball soup to celebrate the glory of the tree.
