A new typhoon has just formed earlier this week near the Philippines, but according to the Central Weather Bureau, it's unlikely to hit Taiwan directly. Nevertheless, the weather throughout the island will still be affected and heavy rains are expected in the northern and eastern areas starting next Monday.

The 13th typhoon of the year Megi is still far from Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau is predicting its path to be just south of Taiwan and pass the Philippines with a slim chance of it making landfall in Taiwan.

Even so, it would affect Taiwans weather next week.

The Central Weather Bureau released heavy rain warning for northern coastal areas of Keelung and mountainous region of Taipei and I-Lan.

Starting this Friday until next Wednesday, the weather will be damp and cold in Northern, northeastern Taiwan with the temperature dropping to around 20 degrees Celsius after midnight and before dawn.

The typhoon is estimated to make landfall in the Philippines on Monday or Tuesday next week, with the arrival of the northeastern monsoon, eastern and northern Taiwan can expected heavy rain.
