You probably never really cared for keeping your receipts. But your thought may change, with the Ministry of Finance planning to up the winning amount for the Uniform Invoice by next year.

To encourage people to ask for receipts at stores, which would in turn demand shops to pay sales tax, the prizes for the Uniform Invoice will be increased, with a tempting grand prize of 10 million NT dollars.

The September 25th drawing for the bimonthly Uniform Invoice lottery made history as it marked the first time that changes were made to the drawing process in the lottery's 59-year history.

Not only was a mechanical machine used to draw the numbers, but the event was also televised. As part of next year's centennial celebrations, the Ministry of Finance will be increasing the lottery's annual budget from 2.263 billion NT to 7.902 billion NT.

The top prize for the lottery will be raised from the current 2 million NT to 10 million NT, and the number of winning number sets will also be increased.

Trial phases for the new electronic receipt system, which will allow receipts to be electronically stored on EasyCards and credit cards, will be launched in December and next March, respectively.

The MOF hopes that the changes will reduce paper usage and add a measure of convenience to the process.
