Starting off your day with some weather news,

A strong northeastern monsoon has arrived in Penghu recently, with the most powerful gust measured at level 12, or equivalent to about 74 miles per hour. To ensure the public's safety, the county government is currently discussing with the Central Personnel Administration, about whether work and school should be suspended when the wind speed reaches level 10, which is approximately 55 miles per hour.

The strongest winds so far this season blew across Penghu on Wednesday.

Over the past few days, Penghu has experienced stormy weather due to the effects of the northeast monsoon, and toppled trees now litter the roadside.

According to Central Weather Bureau statistics, wind speeds in Penghu reached Force 12 on Wednesday.

The Penghu County Personnel Office has been deluged with complaints from motorists, who say that the winds make it impossible for them to ride their scooters.

The county government is therefore assessing the feasibility of canceling work and school when wind speeds reach Force 10, and the Personnel Office will convene a county government meeting next month to address the issue.

The Penghu County Government says that it will not take the matter lightly, and that it will have to ensure that implementing a new policy would not detrimentally affect the local economy.

If implemented, Penghu County would be the nation's first municipality to have "northeast monsoon" holidays.
