Director Chen Hui-ling recently won the Golden Bell Best Director Award for PTS drama "Year of the Rain."

The series, which centers on Typhoon Morakot, is aimed at helping society recover from the devastation of the floods.

Chen recently collaborated for the first time with "Orz Boys" director Gilles Yang and "Baseball in Taiwan -- A Tale of Hundred Years" director Hsu Ming-chun on a short film for the Diamond Jubilee of their alma mater, Tamkang University.

The film has three sections, including one on an alumni visit and Yang overseeing a rehearsal.

Domestically produced films and television series have begun winning back audiences in Taiwan in recent years, and Chen, who now has four Golden Bell awards, continues to set new ratings records.

The domestic film market is booming, but all three of the directors say that audiences need to support domestic films in order for good films to be made.
