A two-day forum among presidents of universities from both Taiwan and China opened yesterday in Taipei's National Chengchi University, where extensive discussions would be held on cross-strait academic and educational cooperation. School presidents of 54 major universities from across the Straits gather at National Cheng-chi University for the third cross-strait university president forum, which was held in Mainland China for the past two times. Since Taiwan has passd the three bills for Chinese students to come to Taiwan, there will be more and more issues to be dealt with for educational institutions from both sides. Therefore, a joint service platform to create a database for students is hoped to provide more convenience to academic exchanges in a systematic manner. Xiamen University president Chu Chung-shi suggests to lift unnecessary bans. The forum is to discuss the basic guideline and principles for academic systems such as reciprocity credit system and total credit for graduation.
