The sixth Chiang-Chen meeting is scheduled to start next Tuesday in Taipei, where a cross-strait agreement on medical cooperation is expected to be signed. And according to Chiang Pin-kun, the Chairman of Straits Exchange Foundation, given the increasing complexity of negotiations between Taiwan and China, the frequency of such a high level meeting may be reduced.

The sixth round of cross-strait talks will be held on December 21st for three days.

Around 560 journalists from at home and abroad have signed up to cover the story.

While the cross-strait negotiations are grabbing international attention, SEF chairman P.K. Chiang says that the two sides have different positions on issues regarding investment protection, and this highlights one of the principles in cross-strait negotiations, which is to address easy issues before moving on to difficult ones. Now it is entering a more difficult stage.

If there's no agreement to be signed, the meeting is not necessary to be held twice a year.

While the format of the meetings may be changed, Chiang emphasizes the principle remains the same.

This time, the proposed accord on medical cooperation will cover several areas, including the prevention of infectious diseases, the management and development of drug safety, emergency rescue and the study of Chinese medicine and its safe management.

The two sides both believe the agreement is concrete and feasible.

Compared to the previous talks, this meeting is as simple as possible.

On the 19th, the vice chairman of the ARATS Cheng Li-chung leads a delegation to come to Taiwan and the next day ARATS chairman Chen Yun-lin arrives at noon.

In the afternoon he will visit the National Palace Museum.

At the mean time, the two sides will have representatives to conduct pre-meeting negotiations.

On the 21st, the sixth round of Chiang-Chen meeting officially begins.

After signing the agreement, Chen will meet with Mainland Affairs Council chairwoman Lai Hsin-yuan in the afternoon.

Before his flight takes off on the 23rd, Chen will pay a visit to the Flora Expo in early morning.
