Public bus companies are currently facing a driver shortage, and some say that the cause may be the increasing number of Chinese tourists in Taiwan. And why is that? Here on CTS, we explain.

At mealtimes, groups of tour buses can be found waiting outside hotels and restaurants.

Although the Chinese tourist market is breathing new life into Taiwan's tourism industry, it has also had a detrimental effect on public bus companies and long-distance bus carriers.

While tour bus operators are debunking reports that the tour bus industry is operating at over-capacity, many bus drivers that previously worked for public bus companies have reportedly jumped ship to tour bus operators.

Public bus companies offer a steady source of income, but tour bus drivers can sometimes earn more with bonuses and tips.

As a result, fewer and fewer drivers are interested in working for public bus companies and long-distance bus carriers.
